Outreach (Missions and Evangelism)

To love God and to love others – this is Jesus’ command to all who would claim his name. We believe that, by becoming the hands and feet of Jesus, we have the chance to help spread the Good News of God’s love to all those around. Our Outreach Ministry (Missions and Evangelism) joyfully shares the good news of Jesus Christ through discipleship, faith development, and service to those in need.
"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

- John 13:35

    Rise Against Hunger
    Evans Hall/Concourse
    Saturday, Jan. 21 | 9 to 11 a.m.
White’s Chapel is teaming up again with Rise Against Hunger to help people around the world who are food insecure. On January 21, passionate WC volunteers and families will gather at the church to package food for the hungry. The dry, packaged food, supplied by Rise Against Hunger, will provide a nutritious meal when recipients mix it with water. There will be two volunteer opportunities: (1) help unload supplies from the truck and set up packaging stations from 8 to 9 a.m. and/or (2) actively participate in the fight to stop hunger by measuring and packaging meals for those in need from 9 to 11 a.m. Approximately 30,000 meals will be packaged and shipped globally! Registration for this Super Saturday event is available online. Families, friends and church groups are encouraged to attend. Children four years old and older are welcome to help their parents serve. All participants must wear closed-toed shoes. For more information, contact Dedra Moffat.

    WC Mobile Market
O.H. Stowe Elementary | 4201 Rita Lane Haltom City, TX 76117

    Feb 2, Mar 2, Apr 6, and May 5 | 5 to 7 p.m.
WC Mobile Market is in full swing!  We are partnering with Tarrant Area Food Bank to provide groceries to families from O.H. Stowe Elementary School.  This offering will continue the first Thursday of every month during the school year and leaders hope to add additional schools and/or more days for the schools as this outreach effort takes shape.  Because there is a significant need in the surrounding communities for food, we pray this ministry will be a blessing to drive out local hunger.  Having a mobile pantry opens up new opportunities to serve even more people in need.  We are now able to load up a trailer full of food/water and deliver to people that have gone through natural disasters across the U.S.  For upcoming volunteer opportunities, visit the church website.  For more information, please contact Jim Niewald at jimniewald@yahoo.com.

    Filling the Gap
    1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month.
Try to imagine a single parent working multiple jobs to support three children. This situation requires the parent to work hours when the children are at home without him/her, and as a result of financial restrictions, the children have no adult supervision.

As unfortunate as this may sound, it happens more often than we wish to consider. It is one of several real-life scenarios that creates a need for a ministry such as Filling the Gap.

The Filling the Gap food ministry provides weekend food to at-risk students at the church’s Adopt-a-Schools, O. H. Stowe Elementary and Van Zandt-Guinn Elementary. Leaders are thrilled to be adding a third elementary school this year, Bellaire Elementary. Bellaire is a Title 1 school located in the southeast section of the city of Hurst.

Every Friday during the school year, Filling the Gap provides backpacks filled with food for approximately 230 children who qualify for the program. The food is bought locally, packed by volunteers, and then delivered to the designated schools. Nutritious items are included and packaged in a way that children can prepare the food themselves.

The program costs vary from $1,300 to $1,500 per week, depending upon the number of children being served. Many families are transient because of their financial status – so the number fluctuates weekly.

Volunteers are needed to pack and distribute the backpacks each week. Those wanting to assist may contact Rev. Lori Cotton.

A long-standing tradition at White’s Chapel, the Angel Tree Forest will continue this year!  Instead of just one ‘angel tree’ the church has created a whole forest that represents multiple individuals in need during the holiday season.  The trees will be available in the concourse, art gallery, commons and the WC Kids’ area.  An online opportunity will also be available with virtual trees.  Drop by to admire the beautiful Christmas trees and take a tag to support the cause of your choice.

Fill the Gap (Weekend Food Assistance)

Help us fill grocery sacks for students at our Adopt-a-Schools that are at risk for hunger over the weekends during the school year.  Teams of volunteers are needed to help in many ways:
    • Tuesdays – meet at White’s Chapel in the main concourse to help pack the grocery sacks… assembly line style.
    • Fridays – meet one Friday a month at the Adopt-a-School to load the grocery sacks into backpacks for the students to take home so that they have some food to eat over the weekend. Volunteers will have to complete a background check.
    • Transporters – during the week, help deliver the tubs filled with grocery sacks to the schools.
    • Shoppers – shop for the food used to fill the grocery sacks.

    When: Monthly
As a part of its many mission and ministry programs, White’s Chapel has a Soldier Ministry that has been in operation for more than 20 years.  Initially created to support soldiers from White’s Chapel, the program has expanded to reach thousands of soldiers across the globe by sending care packages filled with handmade cards from WC Kids and adults, letters, Bibles, toiletries and food (among many other things).  The packages raise morale and let each soldier know that they are not forgotten!  People can help by donating items or helping pack boxes.  Donated items can be placed in the donation box by Wesley Café.  Contact Susan Tanner with any questions or to help.

    Super Saturdays of Service
As faithful followers of Jesus, we are instructed to put the needs of others before our own.  White’s Chapel is constantly looking for ways to serve others here in our own community as well as our nation and world.  Throughout the year, we offer multiple Super Saturdays of Service.  These events are monthly opportunities to come together as a community to serve the needs of others. We encourage friends, families (including children) and all church groups to participate.

Stowe Elementary in Haltom City and Van Zandt-Guinn Elementary in Fort Worth, and Bellaire Elementary in Hurst. There are many volunteer opportunities on a weekly or as-needed basis throughout the school year.

    Agape Meal
Be the hands and feet of Jesus as White’s Chapel volunteers (ages six and up) serve on the third Thursday of each month at the Agape Meal at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth. The Agape Meal offers an opportunity for the hungry and homeless to enjoy a warm meal while interacting with and being served by our volunteers.

Each Agape Meal service opportunity begins at 4:15 p.m. with group introductions and a prayer at White's Chapel. Then, the group gets on the church bus. At 5:30 p.m., the group has a short volunteer orientation in the Fellowship Hall at Broadway Baptist Church.

Volunteers then ready the tables to begin serving the homeless before the doors open at 6 p.m. The worship service begins at 6:30 p.m. After cleaning up, the group heads back to WC at 7:45 p.m. WC Volunteers can ride the bus or drive separately (and meet everyone at Broadway Baptist Church at 5:30 p.m.).

Broadway Baptist Church has been providing the Agape Meal since 1995, and they feel that the meal “isn’t just about feeding the hungry – it’s about creating spaces and times for us to build relationships that celebrate the gifts of all of our neighbors.” Hope you can join us for this service opportunity!
