Service of Remembrance
Wednesday, Dec. 16 | 6 to 7 p.m. | White's Chapel Sanctuary
At Christmas, we celebrate the arrival of Emmanuel, God-with- us, Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. The great mystery of the Incarnation, the union of divinity with humanity in Jesus Christ, is that God became human in Jesus so that all human flesh could be clothed with divine life. Our lives are fragile and destined to death. But since God, through Jesus, shared in our fragile and mortal lives, death no longer has the final word. Life has become victorious. The light of the arrival of the Christ child pierces the darkness of our world to offer each of us salvation and hope.
We come together to witness to and celebrate that light and hope at our Service of Remembrance on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary. This annual service has been designed to offer those who have experienced the death loss of a loved one in the past a reminder of the victorious light of Christ during a season when the darkness of grief over their loss may feel overwhelming.
This year, with COVID-19 precautions in place, we are asking those attending in person or online to register for the service online. When you register, you can provide up to five names of loved ones you’d like read aloud during the service. Additionally, you will be asked to provide your name and telephone number. You must submit your request no later Tuesday, Dec. 15, at noon. If the online registration is not possible, please call the church office.
The Service of Remembrance is a special time offered by the Stephen Ministry of White’s Chapel. Stephen Ministers are trained lay people who seek to provide one-to-one Christian caregiving with people facing challenging life situations in a non-judgmental, private, and confidential manner. Stephen Ministers journey one-on-one with those facing a variety of difficult life situations, including: divorce, grief, job loss, illness, death, uncertainty, family problems, anxiety, or other challenges.
