Very few people talk about addiction, rehabilitation, relapses, and overdoses in polite society. They are possibly ashamed, more probably at wits’ end. Most don’t know how, where or with whom to talk about the problem.

Chandler’s Hope is a ministry that provides answers to those immediate questions of what to do, where to go, and who to turn to when the bottom falls out of life. It is also our hope that through awareness and prevention, some families might avoid the nightmare of addiction.

Healthy Brains, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Choices

September 18 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in The Bridge

Substance-use prevention for intermediate/middle school students. What we put into our bodies affects the brain, and what affects the brain affects the body. Drugs can change how the brain functions – causing problems with learning, sleeping, and emotional health. Drug use can lead to devastating effects such as heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and sudden death. Learn about the power of positive peer influence, where sound judgement and good advice can impact the choices you and your friends make. Free.

Drugs and the Opioid Epidemic

Sunday, September 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Evans Hall room 2131

Assistant U.S. Attorney of the Northern District of Texas Rick Calvert will speak on the prevalence of drugs in our area and the dangerous effects these drugs can have on high school students. Calvert has been the lead prosecutor in a number of multi-year criminal investigations targeting Mexican drug cartels operating within the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

He has also been the lead prosecutor for recent high profile cases in the Dallas area, including the heroin overdose death of Rian Lashley in Plano.

Out in the Open: Drugs, Kids, Facts II

Wednesday, October 16 from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. in Room 3103

Drug and alcohol awareness for parents of middle school and high school students. Marcene Weatherall, Coordinator of Counseling Intervention Services at Keller ISD and a licensed chemical dependency counselor, presents current information including new trends such as vaping/Juuling.
