Going Green @ White's Chapel

You can't miss it lately - information abounds about going green. Whether there are features on the news, in magazines, or in newspaper articles, people are becoming very aware of the pressing need to take care of our environment.

As Christians, God has tasked us with creation care:

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Genesis 1:26

"The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." Genesis 2:15

The first step in going green for White's Chapel is to recycle paper.

Did you know that...?

    • It takes up to 75,000 trees to produce one Sunday edition of the New York Times?
    • Every ton of paper that is recovered saves 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space?

Clearly, recycling paper is a great start in our efforts at going green. Paper makes up at least 50% of the trash from most churches. You can participate in our efforts by bringing in your newspapers, junk mail, magazines, catalogs and other dry papers to the bin at the north end of the parking lot or to the smaller bins located around campus.
Again, this is just the beginning. We are currently working on putting a team of people together to brainstorm ideas and get some programs in place to better care for this amazing Earth God has created! If you feel called to this area of ministry, you can contact Kimberly Orosco at kimberlyorosco@verizon.net.

"Now if I believe in God's Son and remember that He became man, all creatures will appear a hundred times more beautiful to me than before. Then I will properly appreciate the sun, the moon, the stars, trees, apples, as I reflect that He is Lord over all things."- Martin Luther
