"Half the Sky": An Evening Film Screening

| Event Details: | You are invited to attend "Half the Sky: An Evening Film Screening Event," March 4, 2010, 7:30 pm, focused on Women's Empowerment throughout the World. Inspired by the Pulitzer Prize winning book Half the Sky: Turing Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof's and Sheryl WuDunn. Marisa Tomei and Sarah Ferguson, are among those supporting this. The film includes a discussion with the authors; readings from the duchess and actress and activist Maria Bello, and the premiere of Woineshet, co-directed by Tomei, which tells the story of a teenager from a small village in Ethiopia who fought back against a brutal local tradition of rape and forced marriage. The screening is at: TINSELTOWN MOVIES Tickets should be purchased in advance by going to the web site Cinemark Movie Theaters . You can purchase the tickets online for $12.50. It is recommended to show up about 45 minutes beforehand for seating. After attending, you are invited to a group reflection and discussion time about the issues raised in the film on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00pm in room 3201 at White's Chapel in the Adult Ed building.
