Yes, I know we typically only hear this cliche phrase around Christmas, but I think we need to return to it around Easter, as well.  So often we can get caught up with the egg-shaped candy (I love those Cadbury eggs) and Easter baskets and Easter brunch that we lose focus on the message of Easter.  It’s not that we intentionally forget about the cross.  It’s not that we purposefully think only of Jesus while we’re at church.  In fact, I think we want to celebrate Easter with the right heart and spirit…I think we want to hold onto the good news of Christ’s resurrection.  In this world of constant change, with marriages crumbling and jobs failing, with dreams being ripped away, we desperately want – no, we desperately need something solid and sure and reliable that we can trust in and hope in, something we can look to in the darkness. 

When all else fails, let us remember that Jesus is the reason for this season…and every season.  Let us remember that, regardless of where we find oursleves, God’s arms are reaching out to us, that those nail-pierced hands that bled the last drop of life while extended on the tortured wood of Calvary now extend to us…offering hope and peace, forgiveness and life!
